UAE Credit Card Minimum Payment Calculator

Enter your outstanding balance, the minimum-payment percentage and floor, and your monthly interest rate. The UAE Credit Card Minimum Payment Calculator estimates a minimum due under your chosen assumptions, then compares the estimated repayment period and interest with a higher fixed payment.

Use the percentage and minimum amount shown by your card issuer. The floor is a simplified assumption, not a standard that applies to every UAE card. Fees entered here are added to the monthly balance for this estimate.

Estimate only. The actual amount due, interest, fees, and repayment allocation depend on your bank's terms and statement.

Use The Amount On Your Actual Statement

The calculated figure is a planning estimate, not a payment instruction. Check your statement for the required minimum, due date, interest or profit rate, instalments, fees and any overdue amounts.

Review Common Mistakes

The payoff comparison models a monthly rate against the balance and subtracts the payment at the end of each simulated month. It does not reproduce a bank's daily-balance method.

Understand Your Numbers

How Credit Card Minimum Payments Work In The UAE

A minimum payment is the smallest amount your card issuer requires you to pay by a specified due date to meet the statement's minimum-payment condition. The amount can depend on your bank's terms, outstanding purchases, fees, instalments and other account items.

What The Minimum Payment Means

Paying the minimum may help you avoid being treated as having missed the minimum amount due, provided the payment reaches the issuer on time and covers the required amount. It does not normally clear the whole statement balance. The unpaid amount may continue to attract finance charges according to the card agreement.

The UAE Credit Card Minimum Payment Calculator uses two editable inputs: a percentage of the balance and a minimum currency floor. These inputs illustrate one common calculation structure, but the exact formula is not universal. Some statements also include overdue sums, instalments, cash advances or fees in the amount due.

Why A Minimum Payment Can Change

Your minimum can rise or fall as the outstanding balance, statement activity and account conditions change. New purchases, returned payments, fees, instalment amounts and overdue balances can affect the figure. For that reason, a percentage-only estimate should not replace the amount printed on your statement.

Illustrative Minimum Payment Formula

For this calculator, the simplified formula is:

Estimated minimum = the greater of:

  • Outstanding balance × selected percentage.
  • The selected minimum payment floor.

For a balance of AED 5,000, a selected percentage of 5%, and a floor of AED 100:

  • 5% of AED 5,000 = AED 250.
  • Selected floor = AED 100.
  • Illustrative minimum = AED 250.

This example excludes additional issuer-specific items unless you enter a fee assumption. Your bank may use a different calculation.

Plan Beyond The Minimum

What This Calculator Helps You Compare

Use the estimates to understand the difference between meeting a minimum requirement and actively reducing a balance. The results are most useful when you compare consistent assumptions and avoid adding new purchases to the projected balance.

🧮

Estimate The Minimum Due

See how the percentage and minimum floor interact for a selected balance. Compare the result with your current statement before making a payment.

📈

Understand Interest Costs

Explore how a monthly rate affects an unpaid balance over time. The projection is simplified and may differ from the issuer's daily-balance calculation.

🎯

Compare Fixed Payments

Test a higher regular payment to see how it may shorten the repayment period and reduce estimated interest in the model.

💳

Budget In AED

Keep the inputs and results in UAE dirhams so you can compare them with your income, expenses and other financial commitments.

🧾

Review Fees Separately

Enter an optional monthly fee assumption to see how extra costs can influence the projection. Check actual fees in the bank's schedule.

🔎

Check Your Bank's Terms

Use your card's Key Facts Statement and latest statement to replace illustrative inputs with the correct payment and rate details.

A Practical Walkthrough

How To Use The UAE Credit Card Minimum Payment Calculator

Follow these steps to make the estimate more relevant to your credit card. The quality of the result depends on the accuracy of the figures you enter.

Enter Your Outstanding Balance

Use the balance you want to assess. Check whether your statement separates the statement balance, total outstanding amount, cash advances and instalments.

Set The Minimum Percentage

Read your card terms or statement to find the minimum-payment percentage. Do not assume every bank uses the same percentage.

Enter The Minimum Floor

Use the minimum currency amount specified by your issuer, if its formula includes a floor. Enter zero only if appropriate to the calculation you are modelling.

Check The Monthly Rate

Use the rate applicable to the balance being assessed. If your bank quotes an annual rate or different rates for transactions, verify how it applies them.

Choose A Realistic Payment

Enter a fixed monthly payment you can reasonably afford after essential expenses and other debt obligations. The payment must exceed the modelled monthly interest and fees to reduce the balance.

Compare And Verify

Review the estimated payoff time and interest, then confirm the minimum due and due date with your bank. Treat the projection as a budgeting aid, not a guaranteed repayment schedule.

Worked Example

Credit Card Minimum Payment Example In AED

The following figures illustrate the calculator's simplified minimum-payment formula. They are hypothetical inputs, not a published offer or a representation of every UAE bank's terms.

Input Or CalculationExample ValueExplanation
Outstanding balanceAED 5,000Starting balance entered in the calculator.
Minimum percentage5%An illustrative assumption chosen by the user.
Percentage amountAED 250AED 5,000 × 0.05.
Minimum floorAED 100A hypothetical minimum amount for this example.
Estimated minimumAED 250The greater of AED 250 and AED 100.
Monthly interest assumption3%A simplified rate used for the payoff projection, not a rate recommendation.

How To Interpret This Example

The estimated minimum is AED 250 because the percentage calculation is higher than the assumed AED 100 floor. That figure does not mean the entire AED 250 will reduce the principal balance. Interest and other applicable charges may account for part of the payment.

When the monthly rate is 3%, the simplified first month's interest on AED 5,000 would be AED 150 before considering the timing of transactions, fees or payment allocation. If a payment were AED 250 and the same simplified interest were applied, about AED 100 would remain to reduce the balance during that month.

Real credit card interest is not necessarily calculated by multiplying the statement balance by one monthly percentage. Transaction dates, grace-period conditions, cash advances, the applicable rate and payment dates can all change the result.

Questions To Ask Before Paying

  • What is the exact minimum amount due on the latest statement?
  • What is the payment deadline and how long does a transfer take to post?
  • Does the quoted rate apply to purchases, cash advances, or both?
  • Are there instalments, fees or overdue amounts in the statement?
  • Can I afford a higher payment without missing essential expenses?
Understand The Long-Term Cost

Why Paying Only The Minimum Can Take Longer

A minimum payment is designed to meet a contractual requirement, not necessarily to clear the balance quickly. When interest and fees are added and only a small portion of the payment reduces principal, the remaining balance can take much longer to repay.

Interest Reduces The Amount Going Toward Principal

Suppose a balance is AED 5,000 and the illustrative monthly interest rate is 3%. A simple first-month estimate would be AED 150 in interest. If the payment were AED 250, only AED 100 would reduce the starting balance before considering other charges or changes in the calculation method.

As the balance changes, the interest amount may change too. However, a minimum calculated as a percentage of the outstanding balance can also become smaller as the balance falls. If the minimum approaches the interest and fees charged, progress can slow substantially. The precise outcome depends on the bank's terms and how the minimum is determined.

Why A Fixed Payment Can Help

When affordable, a consistent payment above the minimum can direct more money toward reducing the outstanding balance. The calculator compares that payment with a minimum-only scenario under the same simplified assumptions. It does not promise that your bank will produce the exact same payoff date or interest total.

Ways To Make A Repayment Plan More Useful

  • Stop or limit new spending on the card while paying down the balance, if practical.
  • Choose a payment amount that fits a realistic monthly budget.
  • Check the balance, rate and fees on each new statement.
  • Ask your issuer about payment arrangements if you cannot meet the required amount.
  • Review a balance transfer or other product only after comparing total fees, rates and conditions.

Avoid borrowing more or missing essential bills simply to meet an aggressive repayment target.

Check Before You Act

Common Minimum Payment Mistakes To Avoid

Small differences between a calculator and a statement can matter. Use these checks to avoid treating a simplified projection as the amount your bank expects you to pay.

⚠️

Assuming One Rule Fits Every Bank

Minimum-payment formulas and included charges can differ. Confirm your own issuer's requirements instead of copying a percentage from another card.

📆

Ignoring The Due Date

A correct amount paid late may still lead to charges or other consequences. Check the deadline and allow time for your payment to be credited.

💸

Forgetting Fees And Instalments

Cash advances, instalments, overdue amounts and fees may affect your statement. A simple balance percentage might not include all of them.

📉

Confusing Minimum With Principal

The payment may first cover interest, fees or other items according to the issuer's allocation rules. Do not assume the full payment reduces the principal.

🛍️

Continuing To Add Purchases

New transactions can offset repayment progress and make a projected payoff date unreliable. Model new spending separately if it is likely to continue.

🔒

Treating An Estimate As A Quote

The results are not a bank quotation, settlement statement or promise of the amount due. Use official account information for actual payments.

Confirm The Official Amount

Where To Find Your UAE Credit Card Minimum Payment

Your monthly card statement is the primary place to check the minimum amount due and the payment deadline. Online banking or your issuer's mobile application may also display the latest payment requirement.

Check Your Monthly Statement

Review the statement date, payment due date, total outstanding balance, minimum payment and any finance charges. If a transaction is disputed or a fee is unclear, contact the issuer through its official customer-support channel. Keep records of the statement and payment confirmation.

Read The Key Facts Statement

The Key Facts Statement and card agreement explain the product's rates, fees, calculation methods and conditions. Check whether the interest or profit rate is monthly or annual and whether different transaction categories use different rates. Never enter a percentage into the calculator until you understand which rate it represents.

Official UAE Reference

The Central Bank of the UAE Consumer Protection Standards describe disclosure expectations for credit products, including the minimum payment and the costs of paying only the minimum over time.

These disclosure requirements do not make the editable percentage or floor in this tool universal. The amount you owe must be checked against the actual card statement and contract.

If you are experiencing repayment difficulties, contact your bank early to discuss the available options and any implications before agreeing to a revised arrangement.

Frequently Asked Questions

UAE Credit Card Minimum Payment Calculator FAQs

These answers explain the estimate and common repayment questions. Your own issuer's terms and current statement take precedence over the calculator's assumptions.

How is a credit card minimum payment calculated in the UAE?

The formula depends on the card issuer and its agreement. This calculator illustrates a percentage of the outstanding balance compared with a selected minimum floor. Use the amount on your actual statement for the required payment.

Is the minimum payment percentage the same at every UAE bank?

No universal percentage should be assumed for every card. Issuers can have different contractual formulas and may include instalments, fees or overdue amounts. Confirm the percentage and calculation method with your bank.

Does paying the minimum clear my credit card balance?

Usually not. The minimum is the amount required under the issuer's minimum-payment conditions. The remaining balance may continue to attract finance charges, so repayment can take much longer than paying a larger amount.

Will paying only the minimum increase my total cost?

It can. When an outstanding balance continues to attract interest or profit charges, paying only a small amount each month can extend the repayment period and increase the total amount paid. The exact cost depends on your terms and payment behaviour.

What interest rate should I enter?

Use the rate applicable to the balance you are estimating, after checking whether the bank quotes a monthly or annual rate. Different transaction types can have different terms. This calculator accepts a monthly rate for its simplified projection.

Does the calculator include late payment fees?

It does not determine the actual late-payment fee or whether one applies. You can enter an assumed additional monthly fee, but this is only a model input. Check the issuer's fee schedule and statement for actual charges.

Can I use this calculator for an Islamic credit card?

You can use the arithmetic as a general illustration, but the terms, profit charges and payment calculation for a particular product may differ. Refer to the card's Key Facts Statement and contract before relying on the result.

Why does my bank's minimum differ from the estimate?

Your bank may use a different formula or include fees, instalments, cash advances, arrears or other account-specific items. The calculation method and timing can also differ. The statement amount should be used for payment.

Should I pay more than the minimum?

If your budget allows, paying more can reduce the balance faster and may reduce future interest costs. Keep essential expenses and other obligations covered, and use a realistic amount rather than committing to a payment you cannot maintain.

Is this calculator an official UAE bank calculator?

No. It is an independent planning tool. It does not access your bank account, verify your credit card contract or issue a payment amount. Always confirm the minimum due and payment deadline through official bank channels.
