Calculate Your UAE Notice Period Pay

This calculator estimates the wage associated with your notice period and the compensation that may apply when all or part of the required notice is not served. The results are estimates, not a final settlement decision or a substitute for checking your contract and applicable law.

Enter the wage that is relevant to your circumstances and contract. The calculator uses monthly wage ÷ 30 as a simplified daily estimate. The legal calculation may depend on the applicable wage definition, payroll basis, contract, and circumstances.

UAE Notice Period Rules And Pay

For many private-sector employees covered by the UAE Labour Law, Article 43 sets a framework for written notice, continuing employment during the notice period, wage entitlement, and compensation when notice is not fully observed. The exact result still depends on the applicable legal regime and individual facts.

Know What You Are Estimating

What Is The UAE Notice Period Pay Calculator?

The UAE Notice Period Pay Calculator is a planning tool for estimating the wage associated with a contractual notice period and the possible value of the days that remain unserved. It can help employees reviewing a resignation, employers planning an exit, and HR teams preparing an initial calculation for review.

Notice-period pay is not always the same thing as a bonus, gratuity, leave encashment or a general termination payment. A notice allowance concerns the notice requirement. Other final-settlement items may need separate calculations and should not be silently combined with this estimate.

Under the general private-sector framework, a party that does not observe the required notice may owe compensation to the other party. The calculator estimates the amount using the wage entered and the number of days not served. It does not determine who is legally liable, whether a dismissal is lawful, or whether a specific exception applies.

That distinction matters: the person ending the employment relationship is not automatically the person who owes notice compensation in every possible situation. Review the written notice, employment contract, applicable law and any agreement between the parties.

What You Need Before Calculating

Last Wage: Use a wage figure relevant to the legal and contractual calculation, rather than assuming basic salary and total wage are always interchangeable.

Required Notice: Check the notice period in the signed employment contract and any valid written changes.

Days Served: Count the notice days actually completed under the relevant dates and arrangements.

Termination Scenario: Identify whether the employee, employer or both parties are ending employment.

Supporting Records: Keep payslips, written notices, contract copies and correspondence available for checking.

Important Inputs

Factors That Affect Notice Period Compensation

A reliable estimate depends on more than choosing 30, 60 or 90 days. These are the main details to review before interpreting the result.

💵

Wage Definition

The applicable legal wage may not match every figure shown on a salary package. Review the contract and payroll components before deciding which wage should be used.

📅

Contractual Notice

The required period comes from the applicable contract and legal framework. Do not assume that every employee has exactly one month's notice.

⌛

Days Actually Served

Compensation can depend on the remaining part of the notice period. Verify the written notice date, effective termination date and any agreed waiver.

🤝

Mutual Agreement

The parties may agree to reduce or waive notice in circumstances permitted by law. Keep the agreement clear and in writing, and preserve applicable rights.

⚖️

Employment Category

Different employment regimes may have different requirements. Check whether the general private-sector rule applies to your role and employer.

📄

Final Settlement Items

Unpaid salary, accrued leave, end-of-service benefits and other amounts are separate questions. A notice estimate should not be treated as a complete settlement statement.

Step-By-Step Instructions

How To Use The UAE Notice Period Pay Calculator

Enter your information carefully, then review the breakdown rather than treating the headline number as a confirmed legal debt.

Enter Your Monthly Wage

Use a relevant wage figure from your employment records. The calculator uses a simple monthly-to-daily conversion for an initial estimate.

Select The Contract Notice

Choose the notice duration recorded in the contract, after checking that it fits the rules applicable to your employment.

Enter Days Served

Enter the days actually served, from zero up to the required period. If notice was waived, confirm the agreement before treating all days as unserved.

Identify The Scenario

Select employee resignation, employer termination or mutual agreement. This labels the scenario but does not determine legal liability automatically.

Review The Breakdown

Compare the daily wage estimate, full-period wage, served days and remaining days. Check that the figures match your documents.

Confirm Before Acting

Check official guidance or seek qualified advice if the amount is disputed, a special employment category applies or a deduction is proposed.

Worked Example

UAE Notice Period Pay Calculation Example

Consider an illustrative employee earning AED 8,000 per month with a 60-day notice period. Assume 30 days have been served and 30 days remain. This example demonstrates the calculator's arithmetic, not a decision about liability.

Calculation ComponentMethodExample Result
Monthly wageEntered valueAED 8,000.00
Estimated daily wageAED 8,000 ÷ 30AED 266.67
Full notice period60 days × AED 266.67, using unrounded underlying valueAED 16,000.00
Served notice30 days × AED 8,000 ÷ 30AED 8,000.00
Remaining notice60 required days − 30 served days30 days
Illustrative unserved allowance30 × AED 8,000 ÷ 30AED 8,000.00

How To Interpret This Example

The example produces an estimated daily wage of AED 266.67. Half of a 60-day notice period is 30 days, so the wage-based value of the unserved portion is AED 8,000 using the simple monthly-wage-divided-by-30 method.

The result does not mean that AED 8,000 is necessarily payable by the employee or employer. That depends on the applicable law, who failed to observe the notice requirement, the contract and any valid agreement or exception. The calculator does not decide those questions.

It also does not include unpaid salary, leave balances, gratuity, outstanding loans, lawful deductions, court awards or other settlement items. Review these separately with the appropriate records.

Understand The Formula

How Notice Period Pay Is Estimated

This calculator uses a straightforward budgeting formula to convert a monthly wage into a daily estimate and multiply that estimate by the remaining notice days. For the purpose of the tool, a month is treated as 30 days. This convention makes the calculation easy to follow but may not resolve every payroll or legal calculation.

Estimated daily wage = monthly wage ÷ 30. For an AED 9,000 monthly wage, the daily estimate is AED 300. If 15 notice days remain unserved, the simplified estimate is AED 4,500.

Unserved days = required notice days − served notice days. The number cannot be negative. If the employee has served the entire required period, the calculator estimates zero compensation for unserved days under this model.

Estimated unserved allowance = daily wage × unserved days. The full-period wage is shown separately to help compare the total notice-period value with the portion associated with days served and the portion still remaining.

Formula And Limitations

Daily wage: Monthly wage ÷ 30.

Unserved days: Required notice − days served.

Remaining allowance estimate: Daily wage × unserved days.

Full notice value: Daily wage × required notice days.

Served-period value: Daily wage × days served.

Common Notice Pay Mistakes To Avoid

These mistakes can lead to misunderstandings when an employee resigns or an employer prepares a final settlement.

⚠️

Assuming Every Case Uses 30 Days

Notice periods can vary by contract and applicable law. Confirm the actual required period rather than using a default without checking.

🧾

Mixing Basic And Total Wage

Do not assume basic salary, gross package and the legally relevant wage are identical. Confirm which wage basis applies to the particular claim.

🔢

Counting The Wrong Dates

Check the written notice and effective end date. A disagreement about the start or end of notice can change the number of unserved days.

🤝

Ignoring A Written Waiver

A valid agreement may affect whether notice must be worked. Do not rely on an informal conversation when the parties disagree about their obligations.

📦

Treating This As Final Settlement

Notice compensation is only one possible component. Calculate salary arrears, leave, gratuity and other relevant items separately.

⚖️

Assuming The Calculator Decides Liability

The calculator performs arithmetic from the information entered. It cannot determine legal responsibility, exceptions, or whether a deduction is lawful.

Contract And Employment Rights

What Happens If Notice Is Not Fully Served?

Under Article 43 of the UAE Labour Law for covered private-sector employment, the party that does not observe the notice period may have to compensate the other party. The stated framework links the allowance to the worker's wage for the entire notice period or its remaining part. This is why the remaining days and relevant wage basis matter.

However, a calculator cannot determine whether a party has a legal justification, whether the parties validly agreed to shorten or waive notice, or whether a special rule changes the result. The reason employment ends, the category of worker, the written contract and the supporting documents all matter.

If an employer says notice compensation will be deducted from final pay, request a written itemised explanation showing the legal and contractual basis. If an employee leaves before the notice expires, the employee should likewise review the contract and applicable rules before assuming a particular amount is due.

Where a dispute cannot be resolved directly, the official UAE government guidance explains how labour complaints can be raised with the competent authority. Preserve copies of the employment contract, notice communications, payslips and settlement calculations.

Documents Worth Keeping

  • Signed employment contract and any amendments.
  • Written resignation or termination notification.
  • Evidence of when the notice was delivered and received.
  • Payroll records and payslips showing wage components.
  • Written confirmation of any notice waiver or reduced period.
  • Final settlement statement and explanations of proposed deductions.
  • Relevant correspondence with HR or the employer.

Organised records make it easier to compare the calculation with the actual employment arrangement and to explain any disagreement to the appropriate authority.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About UAE Notice Period Pay

Answers to common questions about notice days, pay calculations, compensation and the limits of this online estimate.

What Is The UAE Notice Period Pay Calculator?

The UAE Notice Period Pay Calculator estimates the wage value of the full notice period and the unserved portion using the monthly wage and days entered. It provides a planning estimate and does not decide legal liability.

How Long Is A Notice Period In The UAE?

For many covered private-sector employees, the general framework under Article 43 provides for a contractual notice period of at least 30 days and no more than 90 days. Confirm the rules that apply to your employment category and contract.

How Is Notice Period Compensation Estimated?

This calculator divides the entered monthly wage by 30 to estimate a daily wage, then multiplies it by the number of unserved days. The legally applicable wage basis and calculation may require separate verification.

What If I Serve The Entire Notice Period?

If all required notice days are served, the calculator shows zero unserved days and zero estimated allowance for unserved notice. Ordinary wages due during the notice period are a separate matter from compensation for days not served.

What If I Serve Only Half Of My Notice?

The tool subtracts days served from the required notice period. For example, if 60 days are required and 30 are served, the unserved portion is 30 days. Whether compensation is payable and by whom depends on the applicable circumstances.

Is Notice Pay Based On Basic Salary Or Total Salary?

Do not assume that every salary component is treated the same way. The applicable law and contract determine the relevant wage basis. Check your contract and official guidance rather than relying only on a basic-salary figure or total package.

Can My Employer Deduct Notice Compensation From Final Salary?

Do not assume that a proposed deduction is automatically lawful. Ask for an itemised explanation and the contractual or legal basis, then check the relevant rules and seek competent advice if the amount is disputed.

Can An Employee And Employer Agree To Reduce Notice?

The general framework allows the parties to agree to waive or reduce the notice requirement in permitted circumstances while preserving applicable rights. Keep any agreement in writing and confirm how it affects the particular settlement.

Does The Calculator Include End-Of-Service Gratuity?

No. The result only estimates notice-period amounts. Gratuity, unpaid wages, unused leave and other settlement items require separate calculations based on their own eligibility rules and inputs.

Does This Calculator Give An Official Legal Result?

No. It is an independent planning tool. It does not interpret every contract term, confirm worker eligibility, resolve a dispute or replace advice from the competent UAE authority or a qualified legal professional.

What If My Contract Requires 90 Days Of Notice?

Select 90 days if that is the applicable contractual period. Then enter the number of days served. Verify that the contract and the notice period comply with the legal framework that governs your employment.

Can The Employer Waive The Remaining Notice Days?

The effect of a waiver depends on the circumstances and the agreement between the parties. Obtain written confirmation of the effective end date, pay arrangements and any rights that remain payable.

What Records Should I Keep For A Notice Pay Dispute?

Keep your signed contract, wage records, written notice, proof of delivery, correspondence about any waiver, and the final settlement statement. These records help verify dates, pay components and the basis for any claimed amount.

What If My Employment Is Not Covered By The General Private-Sector Rules?

Some employment categories and regimes may follow different requirements. Confirm the legal framework that applies to your employer and role before using the calculator's general assumptions.
