UAE Hourly Wage Calculator
Enter the figures from your employment offer or payslip. The calculator separates basic salary from allowances and estimates the hourly value of your total monthly package using your normal scheduled hours. An optional overtime illustration uses the basic wage and daily hours you enter; it is not a legal determination of entitlement.
Enter monthly amounts in AED. The package hourly rate is based on basic salary plus allowances divided by estimated scheduled hours per month. Overtime is shown separately and uses basic salary ÷ 30 ÷ daily hours as an illustrative UAE private-sector reference method.

How The UAE Hourly Wage Calculator Works
An hourly rate depends on the salary figure you use and the number of paid working hours in the period. This calculator provides a straightforward package-rate comparison and displays the basic wage separately so that the two figures are not confused.
1. Calculate The Monthly Package
Add monthly basic salary and the allowances you want to include in a package comparison. For example, AED 4,000 basic salary plus AED 1,000 in monthly allowances gives a package of AED 5,000. Only include allowances that genuinely form part of the stated monthly package; do not add reimbursements or one-off payments as if they were guaranteed monthly earnings.
2. Estimate Scheduled Monthly Hours
The calculator multiplies working days per week by normal hours per working day, then by paid weeks per year and divides by 12. This provides an average monthly-hours estimate for comparing regular schedules. Actual calendar months and payroll periods may contain different numbers of working days.
Formula: monthly scheduled hours = days per week × hours per day × paid weeks per year ÷ 12.
3. Divide The Package By Hours
The estimated hourly package rate equals the monthly package divided by estimated scheduled monthly hours. The basic hourly equivalent uses basic salary alone divided by those same hours. These are comparison measures; the correct rate for statutory benefits or overtime can follow a different legal formula.
4. Read The Other Pay Periods
The estimated daily package uses the weekly package divided by working days per week. The weekly estimate is based on hourly package rate multiplied by scheduled weekly hours. The annual package is the monthly package multiplied by 12, assuming the same monthly pay continues throughout the year.
Example: AED 5,000 Per Month
Suppose an employee receives AED 4,000 basic salary and AED 1,000 in monthly allowances. The employee works five days per week, eight hours per day and receives pay for 52 weeks per year.
| Calculation | Illustrative Result |
|---|---|
| Monthly package | AED 5,000 |
| Weekly hours | 40 hours |
| Average monthly hours | 173.33 hours |
| Package hourly rate | AED 28.85 |
| Basic hourly equivalent | AED 23.08 |
| Annual package | AED 60,000 |
These results are arithmetic examples based on the assumptions above. They do not establish a legally required hourly wage or guarantee that every allowance counts toward a particular entitlement.
How To Use The UAE Hourly Wage Calculator
Follow these steps to make the result as relevant as possible to your employment offer, payslip or working schedule.
Enter Your Salary
Use the monthly basic salary shown in your contract or payslip. Add regular monthly allowances separately so you can see both the basic and package equivalents.
Set Your Work Schedule
Choose your usual working days and enter normal hours per working day. Use your actual agreed schedule rather than assuming all employees follow the same pattern.
Review And Compare
Calculate your results, review the hourly and period estimates, then compare them with your contract and payroll statement. Check overtime separately where relevant.
Basic Salary Vs Total Salary In The UAE
Understanding the difference between basic salary and total package is essential when interpreting an hourly rate. Two employees with the same monthly package may have different basic salaries because their allowances are structured differently.
Basic Salary
The basic wage is the salary component stated separately in your employment terms. Some statutory calculations, including the general private-sector overtime method, refer specifically to basic wage rather than the full package.
Allowances
Housing, transport and other regular allowances may be included in the overall remuneration package. Whether an allowance is counted for a particular legal calculation depends on the applicable rules and contractual terms.
Total Package
The total package is a useful budgeting measure when comparing job offers. It should not automatically be treated as the wage basis for every entitlement, deduction, overtime payment or end-of-service calculation.
Hourly Wages And Overtime Pay In The UAE
Regular hourly package comparisons and statutory overtime calculations are not necessarily the same. The calculator's overtime field is a separate illustration and should be checked against the applicable rules, your work pattern and the wage basis required by law.
What The General Private-Sector Guidance Says
The UAE Government's public guidance describes normal private-sector working hours generally as eight hours per day or 48 hours per week, with exceptions for certain sectors and worker categories. It also explains the general overtime approach under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021. The specific legal framework that applies to your employment matters.
Under the general rule described in the government guidance, qualifying overtime is calculated using remuneration for normal working hours based on basic wage plus an increase of at least 25%. Qualifying overtime between 10 pm and 4 am generally carries an increase of at least 50%, with an exception for shift workers. Work on a specified rest day can have separate compensation rules.
These are general summaries, not a complete statement of every exception. Do not use the calculator's standard multiplier selector to decide automatically which legal rate applies to a particular shift, rest day or special employment category.
Why The Calculator Separates Overtime
The main hourly package rate uses your schedule to estimate the average value of a regular working hour. The optional overtime illustration instead derives an hourly basic reference from monthly basic salary divided by 30 and then divided by normal daily hours. The selected multiplier is applied to that reference rate and the entered overtime hours.
This simplified illustration cannot determine whether hours qualify as overtime, whether an exclusion applies, or whether the contract provides a higher rate. It also does not model night-shift exclusions, rest-day compensation, public holidays, special regimes or every payroll convention.
Before You Rely On An Overtime Figure
- Confirm which employment law and jurisdiction govern your contract.
- Check the basic wage stated in the contract and the actual payroll records.
- Confirm the hours recognised as normal working hours for your role.
- Distinguish ordinary overtime from night work, rest days and public holidays.
- Check whether a shift-work or other statutory exception applies.
- Ask the relevant authority or a qualified adviser about a disputed entitlement.

Factors That Can Change Your Hourly Wage Estimate
Even when the arithmetic is correct, the result can be misleading if the salary, working schedule or pay period does not match your circumstances.
Different Working Hours
A 40-hour schedule and a 48-hour schedule produce different hourly equivalents for the same monthly package. Enter your agreed hours to make comparisons meaningful.
Unpaid Time Off
Unpaid leave, absences, part-month employment or variable shifts can change actual earnings. This calculator assumes the entered monthly salary applies for the period being modelled.
Variable Allowances
Commission, reimbursements, bonuses and irregular allowances may not be fixed monthly pay. Do not include uncertain amounts as guaranteed earnings without labelling them separately.
Calendar Differences
Average monthly hours are based on the annual schedule divided across 12 months. Actual payroll cut-offs and monthly workdays can differ from this average.
Legal Wage Basis
Some employment entitlements are based on a legally defined wage component or method. A general package hourly rate is not a substitute for checking that rule.
Contract Conditions
Your signed contract, employer policies and applicable legal requirements can affect how hours and payments are recorded. Use the tool as a starting point for checking your figures.

What Is The UAE Hourly Wage Calculator?
The UAE Hourly Wage Calculator converts an entered monthly salary and working schedule into estimated hourly, daily, weekly and annual figures. It also separates basic salary from allowances and provides an optional illustrative overtime calculation.
How Do I Calculate My Hourly Wage From A Monthly Salary?
Add the monthly salary components you want to compare, then divide the monthly amount by estimated scheduled monthly hours. This tool estimates those hours from days worked per week, hours per day and paid weeks per year.
Does The Calculator Use AED?
Yes. All salary and result amounts are displayed in UAE dirhams (AED). Enter your salary in AED for the displayed results to be meaningful.
Should I Enter Basic Salary Or Total Salary?
Enter basic salary in the basic-salary field and regular monthly allowances in the separate allowance field. The calculator displays the basic hourly equivalent and total-package hourly estimate independently because different calculations can use different wage bases.
Are Allowances Included In The Hourly Rate?
They are included in the package hourly rate when you enter them in the allowance field. The basic hourly equivalent excludes allowances. Whether allowances count toward a specific legal entitlement depends on the relevant rules and contract.
How Many Hours Should I Enter Per Day?
Enter the normal hours in your agreed working schedule. Eight hours is a common general private-sector reference, but applicable rules, sectors and work arrangements can differ. Do not include unpaid breaks as working time unless the applicable rules require otherwise.
Does The Result Show My Exact Take-Home Pay?
No. It estimates wage equivalents from the monthly figures you provide. It does not automatically calculate every deduction, unpaid absence, bonus, commission, reimbursement, payroll adjustment or account-specific condition.
How Is The Annual Salary Estimate Calculated?
The annual estimate is the entered monthly package multiplied by 12. It assumes the same monthly package continues throughout the year and does not predict changes in employment, bonuses or unpaid periods.
Can I Use The Calculator For Part-Time Work?
You can enter your actual working days and hours to produce an arithmetic comparison. Part-time contracts may have distinct terms or rules, so do not treat a general estimate as a legal assessment of entitlement.
How Does The Overtime Estimate Work?
The optional overtime illustration derives a reference hourly basic rate from monthly basic salary divided by 30 and by normal daily hours. It multiplies that rate by the entered overtime hours and selected multiplier. Actual overtime eligibility and payment must be checked against applicable rules.
Is The 1.25 Overtime Multiplier Always Applicable?
No. It is an illustrative option, not a universal rate for every situation. The type and timing of work, shift arrangements, rest days, legal exceptions and contractual terms can affect the applicable calculation.
Does The Calculator Replace UAE Labour Law Advice?
No. It is a planning tool only. Consult official UAE Government or Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation guidance, and seek qualified advice if you need a binding interpretation of your contract or an employment dispute.
Why Might My Payslip Differ From The Estimate?
The entered salary or hours may differ from payroll records, or your pay may include variable items, absences, deductions, a different period or special contract terms. Compare the inputs with your payslip and ask your employer or the relevant authority about unresolved differences.
Is This An Official UAE Government Calculator?
No. It is an independent ExpatCalc estimation tool. Official rules and services are available through the UAE Government portal and relevant employment authorities.
Understand Your Hourly Pay With Confidence
Use the UAE Hourly Wage Calculator to compare your monthly package with your working schedule, check the basic salary separately and prepare more informed questions about your employment terms. Verify any legal entitlement using official guidance before making a payroll or contract decision.
